The 5th annual eThekwini Living Legends Awards will take place on the 8th September 2012 at the International Convention Centre, Durban.

The eThekwini Living Legends Awards is an initiative of the Parks, Recreation & Culture Service Unit of eThekwini Municipality. The goal is to ensure that the legacy of past achievements is remembered and honoured. If a community is aware of the factors that have influenced its history and shaped its identity, it is better placed to engage with and build peaceful relations with other peoples and to forge its future.

The aim of the Awards is to recognise the greatness achieved by past or current residents of eThekwini Municipality while they are still living. These Awards acknowledge individuals with outstanding achievements, and those who have demonstrated a sustained and extraordinary contribution to our legacy. The various fields of human endeavour include politics, business, academics, music , culture and sport amongst others.

Winners in 2011 included Graeme Pollock, Vivian Reddy, Mbongeni Mtshali , Don D. B Mkhwanazi , Felicity Keats, Jonathan N. Rhodes, Miriam Cele, Roslyn Narain, Chief Justice Sandile Ngcobo, and Obed Mlaba.
