Tafta - Mandela Magic spread to Tafta residents

2017-07-18

The Association for the Aged (Tafta) partnered with, one of South Africa's leading food producers - RCL FOODS, in a bid to show that the elderly are never a forgotten generation ahead of Mandela Day.

As part of the company’s  national roll-out to provide nearly 7000 nutritious meals to vulnerable children and adults this Mandela Day, the Do More Foundation (founded by RCL FOODS, managed to shed joy and bring smiles to several residents at John Conradie House and Langeler Towers today (Monday).
At least 20 RCL employees, served and cleaned after 350 residentswho were treated to a scrumptious lunch prepared by Tafta’s in-house catering service Cook ‘n Care, which they say was a great way for ordinary people to ‘do more’ for those in need.

“We are hugely grateful for the association with RCL FOODS and look forward to a continued relationship,” says Tafta CEO Femada Shamam.

She said that Mandela Day is a day that we are motivated to take action and inspire adding that she was touched by the dedication and sacrifice shown by the staff of RCL FOODS to the residents.
“Seeing their faces light up by their presence made me realise that we need to do more and give our all every day â€" not only during Mandela month,” said Shamam.

“The heroes in this model are the recipients themselves, as well as the ordinary people who give of their time, energy and resources to make a difference. That’s why Mandela Day is such an appropriate first event for the Foundation. It’s collaborative and it’s all about people putting people first in true Madiba spirit,” says Foundation Executive and trustee, Warren Farrer.

Over 660 employees will be preparing hot meals for 31 organisations across the country - ranging from crèches and schools to disability facilities, orphanages, old age homes and community centres.
“With the buy-in from our corporate partners and the support of ordinary people with big hearts, we are going to make Mandela Day count for even more this year. Together we really can DO MORE,” says Farrer.
