ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY OPENS NEW COMPUTER LAB IN PINETOWN

2016-03-16

EThekwini Municipality will open a new computer laboratory in Pinetown on Thursday, 17 March 2016, which will prioritise assisting employment seekers with their online job applications.

The computer lab is expected to benefit residents, as it will provide them with access to information and services they could not easily access before.

Municipal staff will be on hand to assist job seekers with the City’s online job application system, known as eCareers, if they experience difficulties.

The new laboratory will include five new computers equipped with different applications thus ensuring that the process of applying for vacancies is smooth.

The Chairperson of Governance and Human Resources Committee, Councillor Nondumiso Cele said job seekers no longer have to travel to the Central Business District or pay to access computers.

“Despite the Municipality’s rigorous recruitment process, there has been an increase in the number of reported cases involving unsuspecting individuals who have fallen victim to fraudulent employment advertisements bearing the eThekwini Municipality logo,” said Cele.

By prioritising online job applications, Cele said the Municipality was trying to minimise the number of incidents whereby people are scammed into paying a fee in order to secure a Municipal job.

She said the laboratory was brought closer to the people to empower residents, especially the youth.

“We are certain that this lab will address challenges encountered by many job applicants. Applicants must embrace the lab and ensure that all the computers are kept in a good working condition,” said Cele.

The Municipality follows a fair and transparent recruitment process. Our employment policies and practices are committed to developing a multi-cultural and diverse workforce that is non-racist, non-sexist, and non-discriminatory.

In accordance with our employment policy we ensure that eThekwini’s work-force is employed based on merit, high skills levels and high work ethic in order to provide the public with the best service possible.

Job seekers are urged to follow the correct procedures when applying for a job.
