iLembe Chamber - BusinessClub - Neuroeconomics

2017-09-27

In October of 2016, Prof Michael Platt from Stanford University told his WEF Davos audience that neuroeconomic techniques, such as scanning the brains of a limited number of people in a laboratory setting, can predict the effectiveness of micro-lending campaigns on the internet. He suggested that the same approach can fine-tune messages to help people make healthy choices or align consumers with products.

As a result Neuroeconomics, as a relatively new field of study, burst into the limelight. Neuroeconomics looks at how economic decision-making actually happens in our brains.

For an explanation on how economics, psychology and neuroscience combine to influence human decision making, don't miss the iLembe Chamber's Business Club on the 29th of September 2017 at 09:00

Exploring this topic in his imitable, lively style will be Professor David Spurrett, Dean & Head of the School of Religion, Philosophy & Classics at UKZN.

Professor Spurrett's research is mostly in the fields of the Philosophy of Science, Cognitive Science (especially addiction and decision making) and Naturalistic Metaphysics, although his interests are much wider. He was awarded his PhD in 2000, and he has co-written and co-edited several books and over 60 journal articles, chapters and other academic publications. He presented his research at over 70 conferences, in countries such as Australia, the USA, the UK, Canada, Croatia, Estonia, and Belgium. David has also been a visiting academic scholar at King's College, London and St John's College, Cambridge.
