Business Linkages and Exposure to Business Opportunities
Cobus Oelofse
Since the inception of the iLembe Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Tourism in November 2010 it has established itself as the voice of the business community. The Chamber is an important stakeholder in facilitating economic development in a region that continues to dominate growth statistics of municipal areas in South Africa.
The iLembe District comprises the local municipalities of KwaDukuza, Mandeni, Ndwedwe and Maphumulo and is home to significant economic and administrative nodes such as Ballito, Stanger and Isithebe.
I believe that the significant growth of the local economy should continue to be capitalized upon, primarily by a progressive and ethical private business sector, to create a diversified local economy. The private business sector, together with the public sector, should aim to continue to grow sustainable long-term alliances which are critical for the journey towards establishing an outstanding investment destination. In order to become more competitive as a regional economy, all collective resources should be mobilized to address the ease of doing business and the costs of investing. As a business association, the iLembe Chamber should take careful account of the fact that investment from within, i.e. the growth of existing and established businesses of all sizes in the region, is as important as attracting new and/or foreign investment.
The iLembe Chamber"s Executive Committee and management team provides an influential voice for local business and continue to build on its reputational value already established with all stakeholders and stakeholder groups.
