Maureen Rambhadursing has nothing but praise for the cardiac surgeons and nurses of the eThekwini Hospital & Heart Centre (EHHC).

Her husband Suresh "Bushy" Singh, a retired Pinetown murder and robbery detective, underwent a successful triple heart bypass in November 2015. His various health issues meant that the procedure was not routine and that various complications could possibly ensue. The family firmly believes that without the professional care of his team of doctors and nursing staff, who handled him with "kid gloves' he would not be alive today.  Maureen said that everyone from the exceptional anaesthetist, to the attending surgeons and the nursing staff gave them the peace of mind and confidence that the operation would succeed.

An entire floor of EHHC is dedicated to a Cardiac Centre of Excellence. The purpose built facility boasts the latest medical technology with fully digital operating theatres and specialises in a combination of both heart and lung transplants.

General Manager of EHHC, Niresh Bechan said, "We pride ourselves in excellence of Health Care and hope we can do the best for our patients. Our cardiac unit rates amongst the best in the world and we pride ourselves in maintaining this centre."

Top 20 Hospitals

EHHC was named one of the Top 20 Hospitals in South Africa in November 2015. In addition, two nurses, Mary Kistan and Sue Chetty have been nominated for the 2016 Discovery Excellence Award for Nurses (DEAN).

Based on the patient's needs, EHHC has recently added 75 beds to its current 250 beds, making it the largest private autonomous hospital in KwaZulu-Natal. The new wing is expected to open in July 2016.
