ANC KZN announces mayoral candidates2011-05-31 The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday announced its preferred list of candidates for mayoral positions in municipalities across the province.
"These candidates represent the best cadres we have for our municipalities and in the structures of our movement and we believe they are competent enough to deliver on the expectations of our people," provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala said in a statement. In the eThekwini region, speaker James Nxumalo, who is a member of the SA Communist Party, was put forward as the candidate. Provincial executive committee member Yusuf Bhamjee, who has been the district's mayor since 2008, is the mayoral candidate for the Umgungundlovu municipality. He is also a former member of the KZN legislature and National Parliament. In the Uthekela district, Dudu Mazibuko, was selected as the party's mayoral candidate. She is a member of the PEC and the ANC Womens' League. Mazibuko served as mayor of Umnambithi from 2006. In the Ugu municipality, Ntombifikile Gumede was put forward as the mayoral candidate. In the Umzinyathi district, James Mthethwa, who has been a councillor since 2000, is the preferred mayoral candidate. "These are the cadres of our movement we are deploying to lead a collective of leaders who are counclilors who must spare neither strength nor effort in rolling up their sleeves to tackle the challenges we picked up during our door-to-door campaign and those we continue to face us as a province and nation," said Mchunu. "They have to discharge their responsibilities in a manner that ensures that we make local government work better to enhance basic services to our people."
