South Africa Ranked 34th

image
The annual World Bank and International Finance Corporation’s Doing Business 2010 Report ranks South Africa 34th out of 183 countries for ease of doing business.  The annual survey measures the time, cost and effort for businesses to comply with legal and administrative requirements.

The rankings track indicators of the time and cost to meet government requirements in business start-up, operation, trade, taxation, and closure. Variables such as macroeconomic policy, quality of infrastructure, currency volatility and investor perceptions are not measured.

Government has also eased requirements on foreign skilled workers, making it simpler for companies to bring in skilled workers and allowing their stay to be of a longer duration.

Although South Africa business is less complicated than in many other countries, the wise investor would benefit from obtaining professional advice from South Africa’s world class legal, accounting and management communities. This is especially relevant as similarly to many other countries, South Africa has some unique business requirements.
