Ilembe District Municipality is flying high when it comes to attracting attention.
Ilembe District Municipality is situated on the east coast of South Africa. The bulk of the developed tourism infrastructure and products falls into the KwaDukuza area, known as the North Coast -Jewel of the Zulu Kingdom. The North Coast covers the areas from Zimbali in the south to Zinkwazi in the north as well as the inland areas of Shakaskraal, Umhali, and KwaDukuza/ Stanger. The area boasts a magnificent coastline with a diversity of cultures that is rich in history.
The major economic factors influencing investment in the area are the King Shaka Airport and DubeTrade Port, which are along the boundaries of the Ilembe District Municipality. Ilembe is also situated on the corridor between Richards Bay and Durban ports
However, the District is proactive in its attempts to create a sound fiscal base as well as grow the local economy to improve the quality of life for all the people in the region. Ilembe District Municipality, supported by the Local Municipalities and all other stakeholders have created a regional agency known as Enterprise Ilembe in order to further entrepreneurship, both formal and informal, in the District.
