It is once again a privilege, honour and pleasure to write a message for the KZN TBP. This is without doubt, the most comprehensive and informative magazine in our region, and one that is able to describe the sectors of business and capture the "heartbeat" of the local economy.
Having selflessly served the interests of the business community on the South Coast for the past 6 years on the Executive Committee of the Southern Natal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, all this experience has been invaluable in understanding the needs of this coastal and wider community. Based on this wide knowledge and commitment, a quality decision was taken to structure a new chamber that could best serve the needs of the business sector; and the South Coast Business Chamber was established.
There is a desperate need for socio-economic growth and expansion in this coastal corridor and what is most certainly required is innovation, creativity and enterprise development that is needs and purpose-driven. Most importantly, what is also needed is a vision that is embraced with an attitude that refuses to fail and to build a team of committed and dedicated business professionals; that are guided by a moral compass and also totally united to provide the essential infrastructure for effective and efficient service delivery. And we have them!
The South Coast Business Chamber will now expand its horizons and vision during the time to come and work proactively to assist our members in the greater business community to overcome the challenges that have traditionally impeded their establishment, growth and economic sustainability. While offering a "gateway" to benefits, services and support, the focus will lie in the development of the SMME Sector; and we will provide access to market opportunities and a wide range of funding options. We will support them in every way!
The need for mutually-beneficial and meaningful public and private sector partnerships can now never be overemphasised and significant progress has been made in forging these coalitions and relationships. While also providing a united and collective voice to the public sector for the improved levels of service delivery, increased performance, transparency, responsibility and accountability; a non-confrontational approach has also earned mutual trust and a high level of respect and recognition from all the government and municipal departments that are sincerely committed to achieving meaningful and sustainable change in our region.
Our foundations are laid in the ethos of unity, prosperity and integrity and this has been a solid grounding.
Congratulations to the KZN Top Business Portfolio for serving as an excellent vehicle to take these and all the other thoughts, ideas and sentiments of business to the decision-makers in our province and way beyond.
